## What users report

More favourable than its thin evidence suggests. Most first-hand reports describe better sleep (sleep score and HRV up, dreams returning) or a calmer, clearer head that outlasts a 10-20 day course by weeks, though many ran it with Epitalon. About a fifth felt nothing, including careful wearable trackers. Irritability and unrested sleep after 2 mg before bed, and oversleeping, show up; many advise morning dosing.

**Effects:** better sleep scores for some; vivid dreams; subtle daytime awareness/recall

**Downsides:** irritability when dosed at night; vivid dreams/unrested sleep; no effect for many; anhedonia (isolated report at 6 mg)

**Caveat:** Low confidence. Nearly all data come from the Khavinson group; one in-vitro paper describes 'activating proliferative processes' and the group claims gene-expression effects. That is weak and unreplicated, so not treated as a credible harm path, but it is the same family as Epitalon.

**Typical use:** 300 mcg-2 mg/day subq or oral for 10-20 days, mornings preferred.

**Getting it:** Research vials and nasal sprays; oral Russian bioregulator capsules are sold as supplements.

**Stacked with:** Epitalon (By far the most common pairing, often Pinealon in the morning and Epitalon at night; most of the strongest sleep reports used both.); DSIP (Tried together for sleep; some who did preferred Pinealon on its own.); Semax (Semax by day for focus and Pinealon in the evening; reported as clearer, calmer mornings.)

## Risk profile

- **Seen harm 1/3:** No study reports adverse events. One first-hand report of months of early waking and poor function followed an accidental overdose of Pinealon with Epitalon in someone with ME/CFS, so it is confounded; other reports are insomnia and next-day low mood.
- **Mechanism 1/3:** The originating group reports gene-expression effects and, in vitro, shifts in the cell cycle; its own 32-patient study saw a pro-oxidant signal and a fall in CD34+ blood stem cells it called inhibition of haemopoiesis. Single-group and unreplicated, so speculative.
- **Data gap 2/3:** Human data are small uncontrolled Russian studies (the largest 32 older patients, co-dosed with Vesugen) from the same research group, with no systematic safety reporting.
- **Silent harm 1/3:** Reported harms (insomnia, irritability, low mood) appear within a day of dosing.
- **Product 3/3:** Most reports describe injecting research vials, with nasal sprays and Russian oral capsules sold as supplements as the alternatives.
- **Never if:** Pregnancy or breastfeeding (no human reproductive data)

## Studies

- [Khavinson et al. 2011: Pinealon increases cell viability (Rejuvenation Research)](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21978084/) (in-vitro, 2011): Reduced free-radical build-up and necrotic death in neurons and PC12 cells, and shifted the cell cycle at higher concentrations.
- [Arutjunyan et al. 2012: Pinealon protects rat offspring from prenatal hyperhomocysteinemia](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22567179/) (animal, 2012): Given to pregnant rats with high homocysteine, it improved the offspring's learning and their neurons' resistance to oxidative stress.
- [Meshchaninov et al. 2015: Pinealon and Vesugen in older patients with organic brain syndrome (Russian)](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26390612/) (open-label, n=32, 2015): Biological-age markers improved, alongside a pro-oxidant signal and suppressed blood stem cells; Vesugen did better than Pinealon.
- [Bashkireva & Artamonova 2012: peptide correction of neurotic disorders in truck drivers (Russian)](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23734521/) (observational, 2012): Bioregulator courses, best with Pinealon plus Vesugen, improved stress and mood scores; the abstract gives little detail on the peptide arm.
- [Khavinson et al. 2020: EDR peptide and gene expression in Alzheimer's disease (review)](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33396470/) (review, 2020): Proposes that EDR enters cells and binds DNA and histones to regulate neuronal genes; the evidence comes almost entirely from the same group.
